About the Black & White Photo tool
The conversion uses perceptual luminance weights (the Rec. 709 standard), so the gray tones match how bright each color looks to the eye rather than a simple average.
The image keeps its resolution and format; transparency in PNG and WebP files is preserved.
Frequently asked questions
Is black and white the same as grayscale?
Here, yes: the result uses the full range of grays, not just pure black and white pixels.
Will the file get smaller?
Usually a little, because there is less color information. The resolution stays the same.
Can I convert many photos at once?
Yes, up to 50 at a time, with a ZIP download.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The conversion happens on your device.
